About this deal

Even though I figured out the twist I still think the above reasons is what made this book so good. To be honest, I don’t even have a clue what it is about. I only know there’s supposed to be a murder and some sort of “Breakfast Club”? XD I enjoyed the plot, lots of twists and turns. though I did guess that Phoebe’s sister was involved - pretty proud of myself for that. The random part at the end where it was actually their younger brother who reopened the revenge chat with the criminal was a little far fetched but I’ll let it lie. At Bayview High, Bronwyn, Simon, Nate, Cooper, and Addy attend detention with teacher Mr. Avery after he found mobile phones in each of their school bags, against his strict no-phone policy. However, each of the students claims that the phones are not theirs and that someone has planted them there to get them in trouble. They hear a collision and some loud arguments in the school parking lot, and Mr. Avery leaves to investigate. Simon—creator of the 'About That' gossip app in which the personal lives of students at Bayview High are posted for the rest of the school to see—begins a speech about the stereotypical personalities of the other four students and how he, through his app, is the omniscient narrator. He drinks tap-water from a plastic cup and suffers a fatal allergic reaction due to his peanut allergy. The others attempt to help, but it is too late and Simon dies in the hospital. the writing and the pacing had me feeling like I was binge watching an addictive Netflix series. If that's not an indicator of a good book then I don't know what is.

He dies 24 hours before he could post their deepest secrets online. Investigators conclude it's no accident. All of them are suspects. After a typical day in a typical American high school, five teenagers enter detention but only four make it out alive. Simon, notorious due to his gossip-style blog that revealed all the dark and dirty secrets his fellow students never thought would see the light of day, had made many enemies. But which one would want to see him dead? Which one of them is lying? And the mystery, where is it? I felt like it was too obvious. There was absolutely no subtlety. When I read a mystery book, I want the plot twist to actually be a twist. Is that too much to ask for?Seemingly out of nowhere, a school-wide text message invites the entire student body to play a little game: Truth or Dare. I love me a good sibling bond in a book. Recently I've been reading books where there is sibling hate or no siblings at all. Personally I have five siblings - not that we all get along all the time. But I feel like sibling relationships don't get enough rep and are unappreciated. One of Us Is Lying has been described on several occasions as a cross between The Breakfast Club and Pretty Little Liars. [7] [8] [2] Awards and recognition [ edit ]

Here’s the thing. It’s the watered-down, YA version of How to Get Away with Murder. Some people prefer those versions! And that’s okay. Ok, so I adored One of Us is Lying. It was everything I wanted in a YA mystery, when I saw it was getting a sequel I didn’t think it would work. But as far as that goes, this book was pretty good at it. It, at the very least, incorporated the drama into the murder and the motive. This wasn’t entirely original, I think I’ve heard of some other handful of stories similar, but it was entertaining nonetheless.

It isn’t long before the police discover that the unpublished entry was edited, and Cooper’s secret relationship is brought to light. Cooper becomes ostracized in school and at home. As police and public suspicion increase, the four students begin secretly getting together to compare notes, hoping to clear their names. If One of Us Is Lying was a television series, I would binge-watch it wholeheartedly. It's been a while since I've gotten so into a book I've devoured the majority of it in one sitting when I haven't been on a plane. This hooked me completely, and I'm surprised how much I liked it. One of Us Is Lying is a young adult, mystery/ suspense novel by American author Karen M. McManus. The book is her debut novel, originally published in the US by Delacorte Press, an imprint of Penguin Random House, on 30 May 2017. [2] I know I enjoyed the first book more because of its amazing Breakfast Club meets modern teen dramas (better than Riverdale and closer to Pretty Big Liars)Also, I guessed it oh my god. I think it's because I'm so obsessed with non fiction crime and murder or probably because I'm just plain morbid??? But even though I had my predictions, I was shook when that ending happened, son.

If you’re a fan of the cult classic The Breakfast Club or murder mysteries in general, you need to add this one to your summer reading list. If you’re like me, once you read the first chapter, you won’t be able to put it down.

Overall, this book was beyond perfect! It was even better than its already amazing predecessor and I cannot recommend it enough!
